ring beard not for everyone

A ring beard is a beard that connects from your chin to your lips. The rest of your face is cleanly shaved.

It is a very manly beard that a decent amount of men have. Famous people that have a beard like this are Richard Rawlings (from Fast N'Loud), Leonardi DeCaprio and Tom Hardy also sometimes has a ring beard. A ring beard will always be popular and that has multiple reasons.

One of these reasons is that a ring beard works for you when you want to have a beard, but cannot grow a full beard.

When should you grow a ring beard?

A ring beard is ideal when you have hair on your chin and a mustache, but lack enough beard growth on your cheeks.

Another reason to choose for a ring beard is when you are happy with the looks of your cheeks or jawline, but do not like the look of your chin. A ring beard can either accentuate or hide your chin, so a larger chin looks smaller with some hair on it and a smaller chin will look a bit larger with some beard on it.

It depends primarily on the person looking at you.

Does a ring beard suit me?

A ring beard definitely has some connotations. Some men with a ring beard are perceived as bad boys or less reliable. For fun sometimes people refer to a ring beard as a vagina beard. I assume I do not have to explain why some people call it like that.

But maybe the "bad-boy" looks suits you very well or you are not afraid to make a statement with your beard.

In certain ways a ring beard also can look artistic or quirky. As said before, there are many celebrities that have a ring beard or a version of it, so you are in good company.

How to grow a ring beard?

You would assume you just stop shaving the part where you want to grow a ring beard and shave the rest. That is true in a way, but will that result in the best ring beard? Nope!

It is way better to first grow your beard in full until you reached the desired length. Then you shave your beard up till your mouth, so that your ring beard is wide enough and looks big enough.

How long should your ring beard be?

The length is obviously a matter of personal taste. You can keep it very trimmed, slightly longer, or you can wear it with a full goatee. The choice is yours. It all depends what you like yourself and what feels good for you.

But the longer you grow your beard, the more important it gets to properly clean and style it.

Beard oil is usually the first product that you will need to keep your new ring beard soft and classy. Beard oil will hydrate the hairs and prevent them from going rogue. Especially with a ring beard you want all the hairs to line up nicely because otherwise it does not look as sharp anymore.

A good example of a beard oil you can find in the Moquer shop is the Shear Revival Sawbones All Purpose Oil. This is a very versatile product that you can use for your hair, beard and skin. It contains multiple natural oils to achieve a lot of hydration. Your beard, hair and skin will be nourished and soothed.

Shear Revival Sawbones All Purpose Oil is vegan and made with plant based ingredients. The formula does not contain any parabens or sulfates and it has a very pleasant scent with notes of bergamot, rosemary and amber.

One of our customers, Jerry, said the following about this beard oil (on our Dutch website):

“Fantastic beard oil! It is quickly absorbed by the beard hairs and it feels nice on your skin, it does not leave a greasy feeling. It has a woody scent. Very, very happy with it, also with the delivery. Thank you very much, Moquer!”

Variations on the classic ring beard

A ring beard can be great, but there are many nice variations on it as well. For example, if you primarily have hair on your chin and a mustache, but cannot full grow a ring beard, you could go for that French look with some hair on your chin, your lips and just under your lip (like the guy in the banner picture).

You can also keep your mustache short and your beard a bit longer in comparison.

Or you can style your mustache in little points that go down. Then you get that artsy Salvador Dali look.

You can also grow a ring beard that does not fully connects, but still have that little patch under your underlip. Then you kind of have a long mustache with a thin beard in between.

Viking beard beads

Nowadays it is also popular to use beard rings in your beard. These beards beads were used by Vikings as well. It is a very manly and quirky look. When you want to use beard rings or beard beads like the Vikings did, it definitely is smart to take good care of your beard, because that makes it easier to put it through a ring.
