Sidebuns a thing of the paste?

When you hear sideburns, you might think of those old portraits and a look that is no longer a thing nowadays, but that is not entirely true. The famous X-Men character Wolverine has sideburns and also the singer of Triggerfinger has them combined with a mustache. Another example is the singer of Motorhead, he also had sideburns and a mustache. So, sideburns are clearly for very manly men.

You have a lot of variations when it comes to sideburns. You can wear them only just in front of your ears or until your cheekbones, like Elvis had.

If that is the look you are going for, then sideburns are definitely a thing for you. In some cases people can also refer to sideburns as (side) whiskers.

Fashionable sideburns

There are plenty of ways to wear your sideburns. You can leave the part in front of your ear for example, so it looks like you have more hair.

You can also create a line that runs from your hair to your jaw and shave the rest of your beard.

Or you can grow them more to the front, so they cover part of your cheekbones as well. Definitely a look that stands out. That is a proper Elvis look right there.

Do you want to look super manly? In that case you can grow your sideburns all the way to your chin.

Generally speaking sideburns are relatively short. Like the length of a 5-day beard, but you can also grow them longer and go for an old skool look. In that case it is important to take good care of your beard by hydrating and nourishing it.

Sideburns haircare

When you are growing your sideburns, it is important to take good care of them and the skin under your beard. Your beard will look better that way and it prevents white flakes or dirt that can build-up in your beard and sideburns.

A proper way to take care of your sideburns (and the rest of your beard) is with beard oil. The American Crew Beard Serum is a great product to nourish your beard with essential oils. The formula is oil based and contains many natural ingredients. Your beard will feel softer and better hydrated and conditioned.

American Crew Beard Serum also provides some protection and shine. It will not weigh your beard down and your beard hairs and skin will quickly absorb the product. The formula does not contain any parabens or sulfates.

Bart said the following about this beard oil (on Moquer.nl):

“Easy, refreshing and a hit with my lady!''

Sideburns in combination with other beard types

You can easily combine sideburns with your other facial hair. A ring beard, goatee or French mustache with some hair on your chin works well with sideburns when you make sure they do not connect.

Sideburns and skincare

When you only have sideburns, that means a big part of your face is still visible and that means proper skincare is in order. You can scrub your skin or use hydrating creams to keep your skin fresh and healthy. Nothing is more annoying than cool sideburns with acne. That is something you want to try to prevent.

A good moisturizer can help you out with that.

Baxter of California Oil Free Moisturizer has been formulated specifically for men. The formula is plant based and provides a lot of hydration. It is quickly absorbed and restores the natural moisture balance of your skin. Powerful antioxidants, vitamins and extracts, like Japanese green tea and aloe vera, will protect your skin against free radicals and aging.

The formula is light and quickly absorbed without any greasy or shiny feeling. Baxter of California Oil Free Moisturizer works best for men with normal to oily skin.

Vicente said this over this moisturizer (on Moquer.nl):

“I am using this moisturizer now for the third time and without a doubt it is the best moisturizer for my skin type. It is the only moisturizer that does not give me acne.”

Sideburns and shaving

How can you find out what kind of sideburns work best for your face? Generally speaking men shave their beard starting at the ears and working their way to the chin. That is a great way to find out if a ring beard or mustache looks well on you, but it does not help to find out if sideburns look good on you.

So, if you want to try sideburns, you should start shaving from you chin and work your way to your ears. That way you can see if sideburns are for you.

You can first check if a Triggerfinger look is for you, the one with sideburns and a mustache. Next, you shave your mustache and check if a Wolverine beard is perhaps better for you. Then you try the cheekbones sideburns, like Elvis, and last you can just keep the hair in front of your ear, the tiniest sideburn beard possible.

Sideburns require sharp lines to have the biggest effect. That is why I would recommend shaving the remainder of your beard with a classic safety razor. When you have a good shaving set, you have everything you need to shave your beard and keep your sideburns.

The Muhle Rytmo Shaving set contains a safety razor, fibre shaving brush with synthetic hairs, a soap bowl and stand. That way you have everything you need to shave your beard comfortably in the morning.

The products in the Mühle Rytmo series are shaped ergonomically and pleasant to hold in your hand. The handles of the safety razor and shaving brush are made of black resin. This shaving set is great for beginners or when you want to upgrade your current set.

A comb will also help you to shave straight and sharp lines to get the sideburn beard you want.

A good comb to use for this is the Baxter of California Pocket Comb. This comb is produced in 12 steps that are all carried out by hand. The teeth make it easy to comb your hair and beard. It is a beautiful and unique styling tool that is handmade in Switzerland. The comb is about 13 cm. long.
