What are razor blades?

Razor blades are the individual blades you use in a razor. They come in many different shapes and sizes. There are the well-known disposable blades often advertised on TV, but there are also more sustainable alternatives. At the Moquer shop, we offer both double edge razor blades and single edge razor blades.

Razor blades

Double-edge razor blades are designed for double-edge safety razors, while single edge blades are suitable for shavettes and open razors with replaceable blades.

These types of blades are usually made from steel or another strong material, making them durable and providing a smooth shave. They also often feature a special coating to enhance the shaving experience.

What are the best razor blades?

We believe double-edge razor blades are the best choice for many reasons. Blades from nearly all brands that offer this type fit almost any safety razor. So, you don’t need to buy blades from the same brand as your razor. Also important: you can achieve excellent shaving results with a safety razor or classic razor. Plus, you can choose how sharp you want your blades to be, as there are many options for both beginners and experienced wet shavers.

The same goes for single edge blades, although there are slightly fewer options available. Both types are far better than disposable cartridges.

Why are razor blades so expensive?

When men talk about expensive razor blades, they are usually referring to the Gillette disposable cartridges. A common example would be Gillette Fusion or Mach 3 blades. These are indeed quite pricey since you throw away the entire cartridge. But there are alternatives. Gillette also offers double-edge blades that fit safety razors, and you can find them in the Moquer shop.

Double and single edge blades for classic razors usually cost just a few euros for a pack of five or even ten. If you’re a frequent shaver, you can also buy packs of 100 or 200 for an even better price per blade. Single-edge blades typically come in packs of 100 for between €5 and €10.

How often should you replace razor blades?

For classic razors like a safety razor or a shavette, it is generally recommended to replace the blade after about 10 shaves. However, many men find that these high-quality single or double edge blades often last longer.
